FROM THE GROUND

"Never did I think that I needed to wear a helmet",  quoted Velda

If you haven’t heard yet, I fell off my horse Monday night.  Don’t worry the horse is fine.  (I know how we all are) But I want to write this to let everyone know the facts about hitting the ground. (ouch!)

I’m not any different than any of you, except maybe my head is harder.  My whole life I’ve been very lucky, never seriously been hurt.  Even when the potential was there for serious injury I escaped.  After a while you begin to believe that no matter what happens you will be able to overcome a serious injury. WRONG!

Monday night I fell off my horse and hit the ground hard.  I saw my horse, TJ, go over me.  I can honestly say that I’ve seen both sides of a running horse.  I was lucky that he didn’t kick me.  But as I laid there on the ground calling for help I COULD NOT MOVE MY ARMS.  This feeling only lasted for maybe a minute but it was the longest minute ever.

I’m a Mom and all I could think about was who was going to take care of Stacy if something happened to me. Of course I make sure that Stacy wears a helmet when she rides anything.  I don’t want anything to happen to her.  Never did I think that I needed to wear a helmet. (because I’m all grown up)  All that means is that no one can make me. (no Mommy or Daddy to tell me what to do) As I laid there I was really was only thinking of Stacy. How could I be so selfish as to not wear a helmet? (not to mention dumb)

I was s trapped to a back board taken to the hospital by ambulance, (cute guys I might add).  When at the hospital I was x-rayed and then x-rayed again. (they couldn’t find anything in my head) This was not any fun.

Today I am OK, but I was again REALLY LUCKY!

In life, if we are lucky we have choices.  If we make the wrong choice we could loose that option.  PLEASE WEAR A HELMET! MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR EVERYONE IN YOUR LIFE!

I want to say a BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU THAT WERE THERE MONDAY NIGHT!  There’s no people like horse people, you are the BEST!

Thanks,

Velda
